The menu bar runs across the top of the screen. It works in the same way as a menu in any of your other programs. Click on any one of these menu-headings and a drop-down list appears, giving you a range of functions to choose from. Most of the bos functions are accessible from this menu-bar.

This is the Tool Bar. During the tutorial we will cover many of the functions of the buttons you will find here.
Contents Tree
![]() |
The Contents "tree"
breaks the book down hierarchically into divisions, sections, sub-sections, etc. At the
top of the window you should be able to see the current volume displayed. Just to the left
of this is an icon, showing an open book. Descending from this is a list of all the major
divisions within that book.
|
The small green book icons represent additional levels of the book a division for example. These books can be opened to display the sections within them. To open this division, double click on the closed book. The book will open and the division headings will be displayed.
Successive levels (represented as books) can be opened in exactly the same way. Another double-click, on an already open book, closes it again. Clicking once on any division heading displays the text of the book at that point in the text window.
There are three different modes for viewing material within bos.
| The three "View" buttons allow you
to switch between the different layouts. |
|
| The default layout is a vertical
split-screen arrangement, with the Contents "tree" appearing in the left-hand
window, and the corresponding text of the book appearing in the window on the right. (See
above) |
|
| The "Only Text" button displays just
the text of the book. |
|
| The "Only Contents" button displays
just the contents "tree". |
|
| The "Both" button will return the
screen to split-screen mode, with both the contents and text visible. |
